About Me

Please read below to find out a little about me, my experiences, and how I found my way into editing.

In early childhood, I was inspired to start writing poetry after reading Now We Are Six by Winnie-the-Pooh author, A.A. Milne. My interest in writing was further encouraged whilst studying A-Level English Language and Literature. This led me on to an in-depth study of linguistics and etymology which I share in my blog – Editing the Argot.

I wanted to be a primary school teacher – but destiny chose another route for me, and I ended up working at an international bank for seven years. I was trained to spot for errors – extremely important when you are releasing payments worth billions of pounds.

As my children were growing up, I left the stressful corporate world and became a teaching assistant at my daughter's infant school. I helped the reception year group learn phonics and taught them to read. Then – even better than a school teacher – I became a homeschool educator. I never had any intention of home educating my children until my teenage daughter suffered from severe shyness and anxiety at school and there was no other option. Fortunately, I was in the position of being able to commit.

So, five years later, GCSE's completed, and no more home education to teach. My daughter is at college now, my son is at university, and I found myself in a rare situation – I had nothing to do. So, thinking of the skills I had already acquired with the bank and as a civil servant for 5 years, I trained to be a proofreader and editor.

I specialise in business editing, although my favourite topics are Ancient History, mysteries and conspiracies of the world, and sci-fi. So, I would be particularly interested in working with authors from this genre.

I have been working with Adobe Creative Suite for around 10 years now, and so I am extremely proficient in Photoshop, using it for various projects from photos to artwork.

"I used Argot Editing to check my advertising leaflets. The work was returned quicker than expected and to a very high standard. The advice on formatting and grammar changes helped my leaflets look very professional. Thank you, Jo.

" Great work! I'd definitely use Argot Editing again."

Please note: My work history has been mainly in the corporate sector, and Argot Editing is my first business; as a consequence, I don't have many testimonials. Therefore, I would be extremely grateful if you could give me some feedback on the work I do for you, so I could include it on this page. This would help me by letting prospective customers know that I will treat them, and their work, with the same exceptional care and attention as you did.

I like to build a strong, working relationship with my clients, to help build a long-lasting, business partnership.

Many thanks.
